Arctic Sun® Temperature Management System

Arctic Sun

What’s Unique About the Arctic Sun®?

The Arctic Sun Temperature Management System offers a unique, sophisticated approach to patient cooling. This novel technology, with its ease of use and precision, has been used to control neurogenic fever and provide therapeutic hypothermia in thousands of critically ill patients worldwide.

The direct adherence of the Arctic Sun's thin Energy Transfer Pads to the skin, combined with the system’s control algorithm, facilitates very rapid cooling with precise temperature control, which often cannot be achieved by traditional methods of surface cooling such as bulky water blankets and wraps.

Unlike other effective, but invasive, cooling technologies, the Arctic Sun uses surface cooling, which is extremely safe and presents very minimal risk to the patient. And cooling can be applied immediately by nursing staff without the need to locate a physician for initiation of therapy.

Unique Benefits of the Arctic Sun

Rapid Initiation of Therapy
  • Nursing staff can apply within minutes
  • No specialized training or physician skills required
  • Start therapy right away with Automatic Mode

Superior Cooling
  • Rapid average cooling rate 1.5°C/hour* or better
  • Very precise temperature control
  • Minimal chance of overshoot

Saves Nursing Time and Labor
  • Minimal nursing time required for initial application and maintenance
  • Automatic Mode controls accuracy and speed of cooling
  • Gradual, active rewarming is automated
  • Leak-Proof Technology™–no water messes to contend with
  • No need to remove pads for X-ray, MRI or defibrillation
Comfortable and Safe for Patients and Clinical Staff
  • Non-invasive method avoids complications associated with invasive procedures
  • Latex-free hydrogel pads are skin-friendly and non-irritating
  • No lifting and rolling of heavy water blankets for patient access

    Arctic Sun Features

Leak-Proof Technology™–Negative pressure assures no water leakage during use

Arctic Sun Features Leak-Proof Technology™–Negative pressure assures no water leakage during use Echo feature–Outputs a simulation of the patient temperature from the primary temperature probe to standard patient monitors to provide a constant visualization of temperature with all patient parameters simultaneously

Time to Target–Provides gradual or rapid rewarming based on the user needs or patient requirements

Secondary temperature monitoring–Offers a redundant patient temperature for additional safety in temperature management

Purge feature–Automatically empties water from the pads to minimize water loss or spillage when disconnecting the pads for patient transport

Fill feature–Automatically fills the reservoir from water source until full, no need to measure water or risk overfilling
